Default Hard top storage

Was thinking of building a hardtop storage rack that would stand the top up on its rear end. The ones on the web talk of liftgate brackets or stabilizers. What is the function of these devices. What other unforeseen issues will I have? Might be easier to purchase???

my guess is that the bracket or whatever is to prevent the rear window from swinging open at a bad time.

When I used a homemade cart I rigged an adjustable shower curtain rod and a bungee cord to hold the window in place.

I have a HOSS cart now (nice but pricey) which prevents the window from opening because you attach the rack to the top before removing the top from the Jeep.

I built one Sunday from the plans on this board. Make it easy on yourself, build it as stated but use two blocks. I tried it with three blocks and two, two works best. Very easy and simple directions. I spent a little more on HD casters and I'm glad I did. This formula is not broken, don't fix it. I added a ratchet strap...total cost with everything, $65.

I looked at the Hoss, looked like exactly what I wanted. I'll have to look for plans. I'm frugal, but don't want to expend effort and end up buying the Hoss anyway. Thanks for the advice.

Which hoist did you build. I'm going to be building on in a couple weeks and can't decide which one to build. We have a harbor freight best my house which helps out a lot on prices of the cracks and or electric lifts.

Does anyone just keep the top attached to the hoist long-term? Like through the summer? I have a RacorPro Heavy lift that I strap the top to. I plan on leaving it suspended beneath the Racor the entire summer. Thoughts?
