Default Hard Top Wiring Kit

Hey all! I have a 2008 JK with a 2015 Hard Top. When purchasing a wiring kit, do I need to keep an eye out for something compatible with a 2008 or 2015? I assume the connection on the actual hard top is the same for all JKs but the switch is year specific. If someone can confirm this I would greatly appreciate it!

Also, if you have suggestions on places to purchase, please include that! I'm hoping for $100.00 or less.

Thanks in advance!

Buy this: https://www.amazon.com/Jeep-Wrangler-Wiring-Adapter-Harness/dp/B005XXW9VM/ref=sr_1_6?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1513956598&sr=1-6&keywords=mopar+hard+top+kit
If you don't have air conditioning as a factory option, then also buy this: https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Chrysler-55111842AB-Conditioning-Control/dp/B00ZQ30E6Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513956755&sr=8-1&keywords=55111842AB
If I remember correctly, you may have to have a dealership re-flash your computer after the installation is complete.

That being said, my current JKU did not have the hardtop provisions installed from the factory. It only came with a soft top. I picked up an inexpensive used hard top for it for the winter months, but I didn't bother installing the wiring/control kit. I learned with my last JK, which DID have the kit and hard top from the factory, that I had had very little use for the wiper/sprayer/heater.

That's a lotta hassle to gain a rear window defroster and wiper......but you do have a long winter in Colorado I guess.

Thanks all! I just bought my hard top used in February, so I haven't used it for a full winter. I've already had a strong build up of snow and mud on the rear window, even though we've really only had a little snow. Colorado snow melts quick so it's usually pretty wet and muddy after a snowfall. I'll probably stick it out another month and see if I really want to pay for a working wiper or if I just want to clear it myself.

I've not thought much about this at all, but I wonder if you could just tap 12v from somewhere, and run power to the defroster and wiper from a simple switch rather than have to replace the a/c controls and wiper stalk on the column. If that was possible, you could probably source pig tails with the connector ends for the wiper and defroster on the top's side, and just use simple wiring to extend to a switch.

If you want the rear washer, you will need to run the hose from a washer tank from a hard top model..that washer pump can be controlled by a separate switch too.

@resharp001: I'll have to look into that battery option because it does sound like a hassle having to replace the switches and the wiper controls.

@Four Low: Good to know about the hose.. probably wouldn't have thought of that in advance.

I apologize for any thread derailing, but I was wondering where you snagged your hard top? I've been hunting for one since I bought mine in July, and have not had any luck in the Denver area. Thanks continue on!

Craigslist! I created a post and searched the postings. I honestly don't remember which one this hard top was generated from. I searched through listings all over the state and ended up finding one within 20 minutes from my house. There are a lot of complete hard top Jeeps being sold that you have to weed through.
