Keeps Rubber strap from expanding when wind catches the hood at highway speeds or on coming traffic.

Dumb question i guess but if you have to replace the latches with these (see bellow) how do you get the OE latches off? (see above picture)

Oops, I didn't finish hte thread before responding...

I just used a razor blade to cut through the rubber (to expose the rivet that holds it on) and then a hefty wire cutter to cut through the rivet. Once the stock latch is off, the Daystar one uses a provided nut/bolt/screw/rivet-thingie to attach the new latch. I will be a little tough to close the hood at first, but after it's been on for a while, it loosens up a lot. Mine have been one for 6 months or so and I haven't had any problems with them.
