Default Have you seen the inside of your parking brake?

Here is mine after just 24,300 miles. I was having a speaking sound, and I found the pads were DONE. The little warning spring works good. I decided to pull the rotor to check the shoes, and YUCK!

Here is the inside of the rotor/drum.

See how scored the drum surface is.

So how long are the pads suppose to last? I'm replacing with Autozone ceramic pads. Old vs new.

Yep Duralast. Squealing shouldn't be any worse than the worn out pads.

I hope they are that thin. I read they are $138 at the dealership. Yuck! NYA at Autozone. I don't use my parking brake much anyway since it NEVER worked correctly.

Paraphrased from the FSM, regarding the emergency brake shoes:

As a general rule, riveted brake shoes should be replaced when worn to within 1/32 in. of the rivet heads.
Bonded lining should be replaced when worn to a thickness of 1/16 in.

Are you replacing the parking brake shoes as well? They certainly need it.

Look how thin the shoe material is here. That's too thin, in my opinion. It looks like it's starting to crumble at the end.

When I get some extra funds. Anwhere from $128 to $132 for something that lasts 10 months and does not hold any way is not high on my priority list.

That is actual dirt. I wiped them off before I put the rotor back on. Still, not good.

My parking brake pads were completely gone. I talked to a tech buddy at the dealership and he told me that he's seen a few wranglers and liberties that had the same problem. Seems like DC skimped out on the parking brake pads.

My e-brake cable is starting to give out as well. I'm at about 26k miles so I'm nearing the 30k adjustment TSB. I've noticed on some hills I have to pull the e-brake another click to get it from rolling back.
