Thumbs up Heat Shield Rattle - FIXED!!!

Just wanted to give a big thanks for the collective forum. I've been going crazy over the metallic vibration that I kept hearing under load at certain RPMs.

My hunch was verified by a quick search here and i was pointed to the exact welds that were defective. The 2 welds that went bad on mine were on the passenger side end. The heat shield that is located on the piece of exhaust pipe that comes across from the passenger side and into the Y before the cats. Overlooked it at first glance, but on closer inspection they had both cracked completely through.

A little prying with a screwdriver and all is now well. If anymore welds go bad i'll use some pipe clamps, but for now i'm rattle-free and stoked.

so thanks again for all the good info thats on here! time for a beer

I had a terrible rattle from the u clamp at the point where the two pipes converge. Neither me, nor the dealer could get it to stop for more then a week before it came loose again. I finally got fed up and stuck a Dynomax cat back on. The problem is not better then solved

Mine has still not stopped rattling. Have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow so they can look at it. It's so annoying trying to be cool going down the road and my Jeep is making this crap rattling noise like the POS' around here seem to do. Makes my lower-ego feel smaller.

Sorry for the late reply. This pic is from passenger side. You can see where the weld broke on the heat shield. It's the same on both sides of the pipe. I used a flathead screwdriver to bend the heat shield away from the pipe. The noise was coming from the broken weld vibrating against itself/the pipe. Hope this helps. Check all the welds. I think there's 6-8 total. From what I've read the end ones are the most likely culprits.
