Default Heater problems

Hello! I have done a search on this and most results seem to be problems with the drivers side vents. Mine is a problem with all the heat, so I was looking for some help. A couple months ago when it was time to start using the heat I noticed the air was blowing pretty cold. I took it to the dealer and they said the heater core was plugged up and needed to be flushed. OK. It seemed to work for a little while, but it has been in the 50's and 60's quite a bit so? After a few weeks I noticed it was cold again so I took it back to the dealer who told me it was clogged again but didn't know why. They told me they needed to flush it again more thoroughly and were going to install a filter on the hose so nothing would get into the heater core and it would be easier to just clean the filter each time. This doesn't seem right to me as it is a 2008 and should not be getting clogged up. That was last week and we finally had a couple cold days and I noticed it is warmer than it was but no way was it hot. Circulated air will get it warm. I remember this melting my hands while driving the past few years so I know something is wrong. Temp guage is fine. Any ideas?? Jeep is out of warranty so I would like to know whats going on without the dealers trial and error on my dime.

Thanks for any help!

Mine is having the same problem and it's a 2011. They claim it's casting sand. There are some other threads on the subject as well that you might want to read. Mine has been flushed several times and the problem still exists.

Default another wrangler victim

From what I see this is problem nationwide with these wranglers and a bad casting process on Jeep engine blocks. I am in Conn. and have the same issue with my 2010 wrangler.

This link will show another large http://www.*************.com/f33/201...335.htmlthread :

Thanks, I will check that out. Seems like it should be a noted problem that the dealer should be able to find out about.

I have had the same problem with my 07 rubi unlimited. I took it to a local mechanic ( not parts changer ) and they found that when you turned my heat knob that the cable it controled was hooked to a piece of plastic that had broke. The new part ( one piece vent controls ) was 600.00 but they were able to make a new piece and screw/bolt it so my control knob would work. They explained it the best they could to me and it is under the radio/nav, which they had to take out to fix the problem. They fiquered as long as it would work and I would not be able to see what they did I would be happy. Dang I cannot wait until july/august its way to cold here!

I have heard of the problem being there when there was no heat at all. Did your temp dial still change the temp when you moved it around? I can feel the temp change so I didn't think about that. I will pull that off this weekend and take a look at it. $600!! If that is it I will definitely come up with a work around also. Thanks!

I had what sounds like a similar problem with my 2008 rubicon. The heat was good on the right but luke warm at best on the left. First rime they said heater core. Fixed for a while and then back to same issue. The good news for me is that my jeep was under warrantee at the time. The bad news is they had to tear out the entire dashboard to access the heater box. Apparently the flap that directs air was not directing it to the left vents because something was warped, i assume because of how hot it gets. Not sure if it was the flap or it's housing that was warped. Ultimately i think they replaced both. The repair took three days and I understand from the service dept that there was a huge amount of labor to tear down and replace some expensive components. I hope this is not the circumstance for your jeep. Do you know if there are any bulletins out on this?

Yes Stains when I would move my heater control knob I would get a little heat adjustment, but not much. I had stopped by my mechanics earlier and they felt back behind my ac/heater knobs and we were able to get the heat working a little better, that's when I decided to let them take it apart and they fixed it.

Good Luck. Much nicer with the 1/2 doors and no top with a little heat!

Njrrubi - pulled the dash off and saw the part you were talking about. Unfortunately it was alright. Think it will be a bigger problem. Thanks for the advice!
