Default Help Make The Oil light Go Away!

I have a 2009 unlimited and have the oil changed every 3000 miles, but the oil light always comes on early. Last time it was 500 miles before the 3000 mile oil change was due and this time it has come on 1000 miles prior to the scheduled oil change.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Is this Chrysler’s way of making you pay for more oil changes than are actually needed?

Is there a way to turn that annoying bell off?

mine goes on way aftewr 3,000 miles.. I think the JK takes into account the way you drive the JK when it estimates its oil change intervals....

It only takes a second anyways to reset it.. put the pedal to the floor, cycle the key to "on" 3 times.. and out it goes.

After starting the Jeep the warning bell sounds, goes off and the oils light remains on. What pedal are you referring to not the gas I hope? lol

Hmm I thought you turned key to on (don't start the engine . . .), slowly depress the gas pedal to the floor 3 times whithin 10 seconds. Then turn the key off and the light should be reset.

You can take it in to the dealer and get it changed.

True that will work, but if you are always taking it in 500-1000 miles before the scheduled oil change to get the light and bell to shut off over time you are quickly paying for many unneeded oil changes.

2500 miles and I got the light. To reset you turn the key (dont start) fully depress pedal 3 times, turn key back to off.

My 09 came on at about 5700 or 5800 miles. I"m on 6275, which is exactly 3000 miles from when it was changed previously. I have not been in the dust, or mud, or extreme heat or extreme cold. Normal driving. I'm making an appointment with the oil change guy....errr umm Me, for either this weekend or next. Might even go until the next weekend (going to be out of town all of next week. There seems to be no rhyme or reason on when the indicator light comes on, but the 09's sure seem to come on early.

Yep, totally right, cars that have oil change indicators nowadays estimate when to change the oil based on the "duty cycle" (estimated based on throttle use). I'm guessing they make the minimum interval that it comes on at 2500 miles so that by the time average people get around to changing it would be ~3000 miles in that case. I'm fairly sure that's the minimum because 90% of my driving is "city" driving and my change light always comes on a 2500 miles.
