That's how I do it! Sometimes it takes a few tries. I think you turn the key to the forward most position (before engine cranks) and not the first position where only the radio comes on.

Why do I never, ever get a light?

I have to keep track of my mileage. I didn't think I had an oil change indicator light.

Speaking of which...

I believe you have to do the reset procedure whenever you do an oil change whether or not the light has come on. That way the Jeep "knows" to start "counting" again.

The proprietary duty-cycle algorithm takes into account many parameters of your individual vehicle's usage. But it is still just a good guess. If you, for example, do lots of short trips and cold starts, that is harsher on the oil (and additives) than fewer cold starts and extended drives where operating temperature is reached and maintained.

If your change oil indicator is coming on at what seems like rather short intervals, consider if your driving habits warrant shorter drain intervals.

Most drivers (using quality oil and quality filters) can go by the rule of thumb of 5-6000 miles OR 5-6 months and never worry.

If your change indicator is not coming on then you must be being kind to your oil , at least according to the duty-cycle algorithm. But remember that the warranty calls for a maximum 6,000 mile or 6-month drain interval.

Also, if you disconnect the battery, for any reason, between changes, the change light comes back on.
This happened to me this past weekend.

Thanks guys for your comments and advice. I did the reset procedure this morning and I'm oil light and bell free.

Glad you got it reset, but if you don't like the timing & if it comes on prematurely again, as RedNeckJeep tried to say have your dealer look into, and change it, TSB here:
http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-tsb-re...-prematurely-2

Mine activates too soon (prior to 3000), with 13k on the odometer. When I get into the dealer, either for the 5 year inspection or whatever happens first, I am going to mention this.

Maybe I am dumb, but I just went through my manual again and find NOTHING about an oil change light, not anything on how to set it. Did we have this feature in 2007?

I have never had an oil light blink at me in over 30k miles. Not once, and I have never re-set anything. Anyone else NOT have an oil change indicator light?
