Default Help! My brakes froze up while driving today.

2009, 2 door, X, 6 speed, 16000 miles.

Today while diving home the freeway I started to feel the Jeep dragging. When I applied the brakes it pulled hard to the right. The picture shows what I found when I pulled over. Driver front and rear looked like this. I had the key out of the ignition and the Jeep off but I could still hear noises like the abs was activing the brakes or something. I have had no issues before today. There was no warning lights on the dash. I find it had to believe that 2 calipers are stuck, something electrical??????

Yes, the drivers front and rear were glowing red.

I was going like 65 for a while, then I slowed down and it pulled hard to the right. Then it was real sluggish when I went to accelerate, I stopped shortly after that.

Well it isn't the pistons frozen up. First, as you said, it is hard to believe that two froze up at the same time. Second, they would really have to be good and stuck. When you start to overheat like you did, the gas coming off of the brake pads would act as a buffer and push them off of the rotors.

Something is keeping pressure in your brake lines so the pads are being constantly pushed into the rotors. I would vote that your ABS system has gone out to lunch.

Maybe try pulling the fuse to the abs and see if it fixes it?

Well those rotors are shot now. I think you are having a problem with your abs. You need to have a scanner put on it to see if the abs is acting up.Idiot light might not go on even if there is a problem.

I'm sure there is a pretty wicked dent in the rotors. Its going to the dealer in an hour, gonna limp it on backroads, 2 miles. They better cover this, im at 38 months. I also have the lifetime powertrain. Im just so pissed right now, if I had to slam on the brakes I may have died. I was also meeting the salesman on Saturday to order a new 2012....

Update:

Drove to dealer, brakes didn't lock up. Steering was fishy, like straight on the wheel wasn't driving straight, but mostly it steers fine... Suspension is stock.

They can't get the lug nuts off, the wheels were just off 800 miles ago for inspection. This is gonna be a disaster...
