Default Hill Assist Problem

I turned off my hill assist immediately and never looked back. Feels more controllable.

HSA Off
If you wish to turn off the HSA system, follow this
procedure:
1. Start with the engine off and vehicle in PARK (automatic
transmission) or NEUTRAL with clutch out
(manual transmission) with wheels straight. Apply parking
brake on manual transmission vehicle.
2. Start the engine.
3. With the engine running, the brake applied, and the
clutch out, rotate the steering wheel 180° counterclockwise
from center.
4. Press the ESP OFF switch four times within twenty
seconds.
5. Rotate the steering wheel 360° clockwise (180° clockwise
from center).
6. Cycle ignition switch OFF then ON.
7. If the sequence was completed properly, the “ESP/
TCS Indicator Light” will blink several times to confirm
HSA is off.
Steps 1-7 must be completed within 90 seconds to turn off
HSA. Repeat steps 1-7 to re-enable HSA functionality."

never got the hill assist thing, to me, if you can get up a hill in any other stick car, why use? i learned on a mini cooper, drove a couple of wrx's and an old audi, all stick, none with hill assist, to me it threw me off my whole quick feet gas and catch rhythm that i was trained to learn.... I could see it maybe on a trail, but on even the steepest of city hills i have my muscle memory and motor skills learned over the years of driving a stick for just that reason, to get up and over a hill...

I would think there would be more backlash against the hill assist, i assume most people don't step into there jeeps having never driven a stick before, and if that is the case, what'd you do before the hill assist?

Thank you yeah it does feel like starting with the e brake on with it now it's off so much easier with it off I always felt that I was causing more strain on the clutch with it on

Its the 3.21 gears you have coupled with a engine with no low end torque. I don't have the hill assist (wasn't around in '08), but mine is still very easy to stall. I have been driving manuals my whole driving life, and this JK is the worst manual I have ever driven. No low end torque coupled with a throttle that is the least responsive of any vehicle I have driven, equals it being very easy to stall.

Don't be afraid to give it a bit more throttle on a hill, as it needs it.
