Hoping you can all provide some asvice!
Ok so I have been a lurker on here for a while. I have a 2008 Sahara unlimited. It had a teraflex BB and 35's. I love my Jeep!!!! Its got 18500 miles. The engine has progressivly gotten louder and it seems to have a more pronounced ticking at idle. The dry start noise has not gone away everytime it sits for a few hours. I have tried all suggestions on here as far as filters and oils, Nothing has helped. I am just outside of factory warranty by time. I have complained about this to the dealer everytime I bring it in for service, as you can assume they have always said "its normal." What I am asking for is advice, I am on the fence about selling it or trading it for a non Jeep product. The last thing I want to do is a swap or conversion or any engine replacing. With the large number of people on here consuming oil and needing engine replacement it scares me to own this one for the long haul. Please share your thoughts ALL help is appreciated!
My suggestion if you want to try and deal with dc is to arm yourself with info...print out some of the posts up here, start doing an oil consumption test at your dealer and send some of your oil out for analysis...this way you have some data to back up your claims to dc.
I have the same concernsa with my 07. It uses oil and pings as well. I just started my oil consumption test. Honestly I don't feel like these motors are built for the long haul. It truly is pathetic
The new 2012 is just great all around. Ask or read any of the posts. As with any JK, when you read some of the issues associated with them you begin to worry and look at you own Jeep. If your warranty is about up and the dealer has taken no action to a problem you feel is getting worse, then you have no choice but to go to another dealer or trade it in.
If you pick to do the later, the 2012 is an awesome ride. Just my 2 cents.

Yes checked the manifolds, definetly lifters or bottom end. Dry start is getting obnoxious....
I am worried about the 2012 engines as well, a few people on different boards with cherokees have had failures already....

I know its not the best answer or what you want to hear but I've read up here that if you hold the accelerator to the floor it won't start...you could do this and crank it momentarily to prime the system and hopefully get some oil to the top end before actually starting it.

I wouldd have the dealer check the exhaust manifolds for leaks, common problem.
Or check to see if where the steering sector saft penetrates through the fire wall, there is a plastic collar that may have slipped down allowing more of the engine sounds to enter the cabin compartment.
