i'll try some other brands as i change the oil. the 1st change was free so the dealer put on a mopar filter. i just changed it myself and used a K&N (i figured a $10 filter should work!) i'll try some others.

at least the oil + filter are easy to change. i can't change the oil in my grand cherokee myself. the filter is in an odd spot, and my womanly muscles can't get the filter off at the angle it is at.

I was always a fan of the FRAM filters with the grip at the end. So much easier to take off, even at those odd angles.

I second that. The synthetic seems to smooth it out. I often have my Jeep sitting for days on end.

What brand and weight of oil are you using?

If I'm reading this right - you're getting no oil pressure momentarily upon startup and it's sounding like a sewing machine (no oil to the hydraulic lifters) - Most likely you're assuming the pump and filter have leaked down? If so - There are only 3 components that have anything to do with that - and you're concentrating on one - might check the other two (the oil and the oil pump). The oil brand/weight is easy to expirament with - might try different brands and weights of oil (that will leakdown slower when cold) - I know the factory recomends real light oil, but you might try a 10W30 or a good quality 10W40 or even some of the synthetics (up to 10W50 Mobil-1)

Checking the oil pump itself - well that's going to require pulling the engine open and personally if it's under warranty that would be a trip to the dealer... But I doubt they'll say anything is "wrong" and that the noise is "normal"... If you've got a good dealer you may be able to park it there for the week and come back on Friday and start it up and let them listen to it and tell them what you've tried to 'cure' it (since they'll probably immediately recommend a mopar oil filter and oil change...)

If someone was in the colder northern states I would run the lighter oil in the dead of winter, but being you're in MS then you should be fine with the 10W30's or synthetics...

Keep it running in the parling lot while your gone, no on will bother it.

But really, change to another brand of oil filter, if that does'nt help try changeing over to a 100% syh. oil.

Default Dry Start Cure-FRAM

I've used the base FRAM filters for 20+ years- NEVER had a dry start- not one time. Excellent filters.....

i JUST put in valvoline 10w30. so i have not started it yet with that oil, i'll see if it does it with that weight, heading home today. not sure i'd be able to leave it at the dealer for a week though, i live an hour from the airport. maybe on a vacation week i could leave it there. but they aren't the best dealer - kind of idiots.

if i leave the key to ON, that does not turn on the oil pump, correct?
