Default How do I know what gears I have??

Sorry if this is under the FAQ, but I can't get to a computer and all I have is my phone... So I have a used stock 07 X that's a 6 spd... I already have a tow hitch and the wiring installed on the jeep, but It didn't come with this. So where can I find out what gears I have? And do I need to regear before I plan on hauling stuff?

i think i remember how WOL put it...
you need to rotate your tire one revolution, and count the number of times the pinion goes around. if it goes 4 or over its 4.10, if its over 3.5 turns its 3.73, and if its less than 3.5 turns its the 3.21. sorry if i am incorrect, but i think i am right...

In 07 it's either 3.21 or 4.10 .. factory tow would have 4.10 ... If you have factory tires your RPM at 65 will be around 1900 for a 321 ... or 2600 for a 4.10 ...

You can tell from the Vin number. Google Jeep +VIN Decoder to get the info.

Well i'll have to wait till I get out of school to check the jeep, but I'm thinking I probably have the 3.21's which I was hoping not to have. So do I need to regear before towing (first trip is taking a 1987 jeep wrangler to whichita Texas)? If so how much is that gonna cost?
