I just kept adding grease in there.

I don't think it will blow up your t-case if it seizes up. It will just twist the driveshaft itself. The aftermarket ones would blow up your t-case.

Plus, you'll definitely know it's about to go when it starts squeaking a lot, so it's not like it's a time bomb.
What did you add grease with? If you mind me asking

I'd use one of these:

I went with a Coast 1310 (front and rear), but there are others as well - JE Reel, Tom Woods, Tatton just to name a few. But when you do get an aftermarket driveshaft, be sure to get adjustable control arms as well.

I wonder if it's possible to reseal a torn boot with shoe gloo? I'v heard of it used for CV boots with success. Thoughts?

Also, I know you're supposed to get upper control arms when you upgrade to an aftermarket shaft, but I haven't done that yet and I've driven 70+ without any noticeable vibrations. That's with 2.5 inches of lift and a tom woods shaft.

That'd be awesome if you could use some kind of glue to fix the rubber! I'd love to fix up my old shaft to keep as a spare, just in case (even though you replace yokes with aftermarket).
I read about people using it on various car forums for their CV axle boots. They inject some grease and patch it with the glue. I can't imagine it wouldn't work on our JK's since the problem is just excessive pinch wear on the rubber causing it to tear.
