Ya, I saw that aswell. The whole reason I was asking is my g/f wont camp in a tent on the ground. I dont want to spend 1,500 on a rack and I saw a guy post a pic on here where he and his wife just threw the tent on the roof but i questioned the ability of the roof holding that much weight.

I think the final answer is its best not to try it.

I've climbed on mine hard top many times.. never a problem.

I've put a folding chair, tripod and camera with 600mm tele lens up there and spent an afternoon..

That's about 35lbs for the camera and tripod and 185 for me..

Yes it was mounted to a roof rack but roof rack is supported my hardtop only..think the roof rack is a pre runner brand. Just screws to top of hardtop then tent on it

Here is what my wife and I use:
Cabela's Deluxe Tent Cot, Cots, Cots, Pads, & Beds, Camping : Cabela's

A Cabelas Cot tent. Off the ground and a great nights sleep!

Personally, I don't feel the hardtop should be used for any weight bearing at all. I know plenty have racks direct to the hard top, but I would never do it or anything else that uses the hard top for support.

How about that fold out camper/trailer Mopar sells? Kinda pricey, but cheaper than a new hardtop!

Last I saw, the jeep trailer was $9-11k, a little more than a new hard top. You could try either a small pop-up pull behind. More than a new roof, but way less than a Jeep brand trailer. Plenty of lightweight trailer options out there

Default I certainly wouldn't risk it!

The top was designed to cover the Jeep and keep the elements out not to be a load bearing structure. I would think the weight of a single person and a tent would be fine but I'm not willing to find out.
