How to remove plastic screws - interior
Hey everyone, what's the best way to remove the plastic screws that hold down the plastic interior kick plates near the door sills? Without buying a trim removing tool, is there a better way than just pulling them out and ruining the threads (I've done that before)? I want to pull up my carpet in the front and check to see if it is dry.
I removed my caprets the second day I had the Jeep, just didn't like the look of 'em. I just pulled hard on the carpet because I thought it was being stubborn and a plastic screw with a huge head on it went rolling around... I looked at it and assumed that if it came off that easily, it probably wasn't all that important, but when it happend on the passenger side too I looked where it went and pushed it back on and held up just fine... oh and a side note, my carpet wasn't secured under the side trim, it just had a half inch lip sticking under it, so you can just grab the carpet and pull it out from under the trim... -Captain
I had the same thing when removing the carpet for cleaning ( after wheeling)....
It appears the carpet hold downs under driver and pass front seats are a push on style..........at least on the unlimited.!

Well I just pulled them out again on my lunch break. not sure if the threads are too damaged to go back in snug. It was wet and really dirty under my carpet plus the drain plug was not put back in properly. Glad I pull up the carpet. Damn dealer must have botched things up during my last trip for my leaking soft top.
I pulled up the carpet before, and I vacumed and dried every thing out, putting back the plugs properly.
If the screws don't go back in properly, I am going to have them send me new ones, free of charge. That's the least they can do.

I use a small pry bar and just pry them out. Normally they break but its too big of a hassle trying to unscrew them out and then pull up at the same time. If you go to any autoparts store or your dealer you can get new ones in a bag of like 10 or something for only around 2 bucks. Its worth it for me not to hassle with them for 20 minutes.
I just removed my carpet yesterday. You do not need to remove the plastic trim pieces. Just pull on the carpet. There is only about 1/2 inch of carpet under the trim. You can pull the carpet out without removing the trim.
