Idea for an easy fix for bouncing hood
As all Jeep owners know, the hood bounces around when driving against windy conditions. A recent thread about this had some great suggestions to reduce the movement and I just thought about a very easy way to stabilize the hood when driving against the wind.
Any fix to reduce hood movement while driving would probably reduce unnecessary stress to the hood hinges and the hood itself.
So....here's what I'm planning....
I will fabricate some rubber pads that are slightly thicker than the gap between the hood and the grill when shut and glue these pads to the places where the hood shuts so that there will be pressure/resistance when clamping the hood shut with the hood latches. (I still have to figure out the best thickness of the rubber pads to cut and glue so that the hood stays shut with no wobble at all).
This has to be good for hood parts, hood, hinges, latches, etc.
What do you guys think?

This is easy. It drove me nut too. Just buy some of the aftermarket ones from Daystar for under $30 and save your sanity. I didn’t take the old latches off the jeep like the instructions say to do. I just got two pairs of pliers and twisted the pins in to two pieces. It took me 10-15 minutes to do the job.
Careful adding things like those rubber things under the hood like you're talking about doing. Reason why is this will put a little slight gap there causing wind to catch and this will cause extra stress on the hood hold downs in addition to the extra stress on them you added by putting the rubber things under there. So by doing that you are taking a big safety risk instead of just getting the Daystars.

We have had several guys here just remove the spring that pushes the hood up. Problem solved! Simple as that...
But to help stimulate the economy please buy the daystars and put in rubber pads... While your at it, pay someone to do the work!!!
Just kidding.
But the spring removal does work
