.If the soft top is removed, the pivot brackets must also be removed
so, the owner's manual says:
If the soft top is removed, the pivot brackets must also be removed from the sport bar.
Why?
Seems like it'd be easier to leave the soft top brackets on the "sport" bar.
I searched, but couldn't find any threads on this topic, though I'm sure it's been discussed.

This statement always confused me. The context of removing the Pivot Bracket seems to be if you are removing the soft top for the first time if you have the dual top option:
DUAL TOP — IF EQUIPPED
If your vehicle is equipped with a Dual Top, you must
remove one of the tops from the vehicle. If the soft top
is removed, the pivot brackets must also be removed
from the sport bar. The soft top was installed at the
factory for shipping purposes only. The soft top and the
hard top are to be used independently.
Further in the manual, it states:
If the pivot brackets have been removed, unzip the
sport bar covers and attach the pivot brackets to the
sports bar with the four screws that were removed
using a #T30 Torx head driver.
Key word there is "if". So it must be OK not to.
There is no interference between the hard top and the brackets. I have never removed mine.

hm,
I guess it's important to remember this is from the same company with commercials saying "u-connect is not to be used while the vehicle is in motion"
so it might just be some CYA text in case something does go wrong.

Indeed, there is no need to remove them at all. Personal preference. I like the look of them off and I have a large Chocolate Lab in the back of my rig often and would hate for him to hit them so I take them off.

I have a two door and it seemed that If I left them, one could hit them when trying to get in the back seat. Only problem is, I did not put the back seat in. BUt I do take my dogs out in the jeep and they are in the back. So, I also would worry that they would hit that thing.
