Default iOS/ipad navigation. What are you using?

Ok I know this has been discussed many times on here. I've searched so many different ways. Maybe it's my computer but nothing is pulling up right and search keeps crashing.

So, question is for those of you navigating on the trails with iPad. What apps have you found useful? I've got a separate GPS unit that connects to my iPad that I use for aviation. I'd like to out it to good use offroad but not sure what apps are good.

Any thoughts on mounting locations would be welcome too!

Thanks!

This is what I'm looking into for my mini. I only know what I've seen and have no experience with it but it looks pretty good.

GAIA GPS works fantastic. I use it with my iPad Air and the Garmin GLO external GPS receiver on the trail and it works perfectly. 20 bucks for the app and you can download all the maps you want from multiple different topo's to terrain and satellite

I'm not an Apple fellow, but when I was helping James over on AO set up his own iPad one of the things we learned is that if you want integrated GPS with an iPad, you must buy the 3G version (is there an LTE version now?). You don't need to buy a data plan for the iPad, but you don't get the GPS hardware with a non cell service version. Seems strange to link GPS with cell data service capability, but that's one (of many) reason I'm not an Apple fan. Just thought I'd put that out there for anyone looking to buy a device who may prefer Apple and stumble on this thread.

X2 on the Gaia app, which works on both Apple OS and Android. This app has saved me countless times from making wrong turns on the trail. And it syncs across your devices so that the maps and waypoints on the iPad also appear on my iPhone.

I use the Apple iPad mini, which fits in the dash tray nicely and has enough screen to see where you are relative to surrounding topography.
