So should I be saving up for Rugged Ridge sprinkler system?? :P ok ok that was in bad taste. Seriously, thanks for sharing. I have noticed my heater gets REALLY F'IN hot when i crank it.... so hot that u cant keep your hand near the vent because it burns (uncomfortably... not literally). i wonder if that is related?
There was only one fire that I read about that could be pointed to something conclusive, and it was the replacement of the trans cooler lines, fire started due to a bad replacement/recall job. And even that was a he said/she said deal. My recommendation for all with the auto trans is to get a transmission cooler installed, they are cheap and does not hurt to have one.

I installed an auxiliary auto trans cooler myself for (guesstimate as it's been a while) around $125 after a weekend wheelin trip last week kept me on the side of the trail a few times while I let it cool down. Haven't had any issues since...
Now comments in regards to the OP:
This is interesting and at first, sure I wanted to know more to learn if I should be aware of something, but 9 out of 94,000, that percentage is 0.0096% of 2010 models that this situation occurred, I'd say our odds are pretty good. Not to say that it couldn't happen, but chances seem to be pretty slim.
On another note, I just finished reading an article in Four Wheeler magazine (Feb '12 issue) which highlighted the last 50 years of the mag. One section was dedicated to "The Political, Legal, and National Climate", where a number of the quotes were related to media scrutiny of Jeep and 4x4's in general. The 4x4 market has been under constant close watch by the media and at any chance (not just with vehicles, but anything really) "they" exploit a story to its fullest for ratings; trying to scare the public, etc... Sure this is a story and I feel for the people whom this has happened to, but the way the JK is singled out here is a bit much IMO. There was no eluding to any other vehicle models this may have happened to, etc...
I'm sure ya'll remember the whole Ford Explorer debacle a few years back... Now THAT was an issue as it's frequency was greater!
Just goes to show you that one bad experience in any aspect of life can alter your future, sad this guy has a bad taste in his mouth about Jeep, but then again I don't want a Detroit Tigers fan owning a JK anyways making me look bad... GO BRAVES!
I have owned four Jeeps, currently still own 3; love em and don't think anything will change that!
