Nice
So, I got my 2007 about 3 years ago and for the past 2 years I've had this clicking start issue. I've replaced the battery, no fix. I've replaced the starter twice, no fix. I've replaced the ignition switch, no fix. I've replaced the actuator pin, no fix. This has all been over a 2 year period. My current mechanic has suggested I replace the starter .... I got online and typed the same thing in as I always have and today I got lucky and "foo"'s YouTube video popped up and I was able to follow his link here. About 2 hours ago I went and purchased a 2 gauge (really want this to work) ground wire from Walmart at $11.00, ran it from the negative battery terminal to the alternator top post. I cranked my jk around 10 times and no click. Im giving that luck to the newly reconnected battery. I will be reporting back and letting you all know if this works for me. Good luck to all those suffering from jerpes, you are not alone
Good Luck

Mine out of the blue just started doing this also. I've already replaced the stock battery to one of the gel units several months ago. One thing I did notice on my new duralast battery was that the negative terminal post was a little bit smaller in diameter compared to the positive post.
So I ended up buying a set of battery post shims (about $4.50-$5 on Amazon) and shimmed the negative post. Haven't had any clicks in the last 2 days since installation knock-on-wood. Been working good so far. Just another option to look at, cheap, and also super easy to install.
I also purchased an extra negative battery cable to mount to the alternator bracket but I'm going to see if the shims take care of the issue for now.

I did the above mentioned back in August of 2014. To this day, never had a problem. Even though I'm running a Genesis dual battery system now, I still kept the extra ground cable on the alternator bracket to negative battery post and also put a new shim on the negative battery post of my Odyssey battery.
Once your windows, door locks, wipers, etc. start acting funny then it's usually your TIPM that's going or has a bad plug connection.

Thanks for the heads-up

.[Thanks for the heads-up DJ1 on windows, door locks, wipers, etc TIPM fix. I have also read on JK Forum about a member saying that he just un-tightens and re-tightens all of the grounds under the hood when this happens (no start click), i.e. under hood, over wheel ]

Thanks to all replies, this just started happening to me
So this just started happening to me as well, had Auto_zone check the battery/alternator and they said it was fine and suggested the starter even though they apparently couldn't test it because it's too new. I replaced the starter and it solved it for about 2 days, then the gremlin reared it's ugly head again. I have a '13 Auto with 68k on it. Coincidentally I just had it regeared to 4.56 and put on 35's and reprogrammed with FlashCal. So, I've been turning the key to 'on' and waiting for the bells to stop and then starting, that's been working so far. Temp isn't an issue as it happens a lot after sitting minutes or hours or even all night. I guess I'll be jumping on the 2 gauge extra gnd wire band wagon and seeing how that goes. Thank the Jeep gods for this forum and all the info you all have provided.

Try untightening and retightening

Thanks, I did do that with the 4 or 5 I could find in the engine bay. They all looked clean. One thing an 'old-school' mechanic told me (my step-dad) was that even though the connections look good, the wire inside the insulation could be brittle, broken, or corroded. He used to see this type of issue all the time and usually ran a ground strap from the battery to somewhere on the block.

Saved My Bacon!
It's been over week, and not one No-Start! It is FIXED!!!!!
Here are the photos. I think the battery cable was 4 feet or something.
Negative battery cable on battery and ran alone firewall (ziptie).
Mounted to top alternator engine mount.
BooYa!
This was such an easy clean fix, I should have did it 4 years ago! Took a total of 10 minutes..
Everytime the Jeep wouldn't start it would worry me a tad, especially if it took 3 or 4 tries. So much for Jeep's Grounds!
No more worries!

This was the answer to my issue, same exact symptoms on a 2K7 Sahara JKU. Bought it from a dealership and it had some intermittent issues right out of the gate, both with the TIPM (Fuse Box) which they replaced but also this 1 click no crank. Replaced starter and battery (which were due anyway) but issue persisted and was getting worse. The problem was intermittent enough when at the stealership that they couldn't reproduce it on demand. I'd eliminated any other relay or shifter possibilities although the symptoms are very similar. After following this post - BINGO. Looks like I bought the same gauge and length wire (Advance Auto) Issue went away completely. THANK YOU!

This thread is very interesting. I've had a 69 camaro sitting in my garage since the 90's because I couldn't figure out the intermittent start issue. I replaced the starter, alternator, ignition switch, voltage regulator, battery, cables, wiring harness, fuse box and neutral cut off switch.
I never thought to run a ground from the battery to the alternator. I wonder if this will bring her back to life?
