Default Knock in the front

When turning or braking I feel a knock through the steering wheel. I have a 2007 Unlimited with 72K on it. Is this knock normal????? Is this just the front steering bar pioviting?
thanks Joe

Afraid not. Have you got under there to check for anything loose? Is there a sound associated?

I also have this. Search and you will find many threads dedicated to this steering bump.

Yeah, unless you have loose bolts on your trackbar, pitman arm or something similar sounds like you may have the infamous "steering clunk" caused by binding teeth on the intermediate shafts.

Eh, look, I replace my intermediate shaft once a year because of this. The freakin shaft splines are metal, the collar splines are a teflon shit. It runs right past your manifold and heats up, cools down many times resulting in a clunky shaft.

Hell I've NEVER had the steering clunk on my JK. However my '06 Impala has had the steering clunk since it was new. Go figure, the only thing in over 100,000 miles....

There are many sloppy parts on the JK steering that cause this issue along with general crappy steering..

Poorly made intermediate shaft, including the cheap U-Joints on them.

The steering box does not have strong bearing. The sector shaft then develops sideways play and you get a knock.

Cheap tie rod an drag link ends that are also not serviceable.

Jeep used a fully threaded bolt for the trackbar mounts which are thin metal so it chews up the holes and wallows the holes out causing play.

Jeep ball joints are crap. People have gone through several sets with low mileage, this also causes issues.

I could go on and on..

However, why the aftermarket has not stepped up and made a better shaft and steering box is beyond me. There is A LOT of money to be made there and I think 80% of steering feel would be better with these issues beefed up.

Perhaps we should start a thread on here asking the vendors to make these items..

I've got the clunk and have learned to live with it- along with a few other quirks.

Its part of owning a jeep. Sounds like it's your intermediate shaft. I live with mine like that....

This is quite common on JKs. Mine developed this only after 10,000 kms.. I removed steering shaft, pulled the boot down that covers the steering splines and filled it with heavy duty grease (high pressure/high heat grease such as 5th wheel grease), also greased the the two u-joints located on the steering shaft.. reinstalled and clunk is now gone
