Default Looking for Sand Tires

I have a 2009 Unlimited with BFG M/T 255/75/17 now. They do not hold well in wet road conditions and are terrible in sand. This is my daily driver vehicle, but I do go off-road occasionally. 99% of my off road is in what we call sugar sand, which is fine white sand found in the orange groves. The M/Ts sink like a rock. The BFG A/Ts I had on my last truck were great, but pricey. My tire guy is recommending the Dueler Revo2 in a 285/70/17. The price is ok ($200 ea), but they don't look very aggressive and I don't want to waste any money.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a on-road and off-road sand tire in that price range? Also, anyone know the value of used M/T with 12k miles on them?

BTW, first post. This is a great site!

Thanks, Jim.

Nitto Dune Grapplers

I have a friend that has these and he swears by them.

I have Duratracs that have performed well on the sand of Texas beaches.

Excellent sand tire!

I have the 33x12.50 STS's on my '91 Jeep Wrangler. I recently took them to the Ocala National Forest in central Florida. With 16 psi, on 15x10 wheels, these tires were nothing short of amazing in deep, loose "sugar sand". Out of the 5-9 Jeeps in our group rides, I was the ONLY one who could navigate the deep sand without spinning a tire, PLUS I did it in 2wd! These tires do not dig in, but seem to ride right over the top of loose sand! I have had them in some mud, but they don't do as well in that environment. In mud, they tend to pack up the tread, and do not bite very well. I would have given them a rating of 10 stars if they were better in the mud, but they're not that good. However, if your off road activities include a lot of sand, stop shopping and buy these tires ASAP!

In my opinion, the road noise is not that loud, they do hum, but they are certainly not loud. I would recommend that anyone who buys these tires, or already has them, should pay close attention to tire pressure, the lower the pressure you use, the better the tire works. Running the lowest pressure that you can to get them to wear evenly, will result in excellent traction.
