I took mine to the dealer months ago and they took it to a body/paint guy. Needless to say about the time I come to grips with the missing paint someone brings it up again. But I love my jeep anyway and would have bought it regardless. Think its been said before-We just have to live with it.

Agreed, I was anticipating stuff like this, I am just worried about corrosion. if nothing else, I'll pick up some touch up paint and hit the spots by the hinges. I don't want it to rus and bubble. Any other sealing suggestions?

This is what I thought - had my dealer throw in some touch up paint with the purchase. Then I got home and started really examining the paint coverage - it is truly horrible (which is different from my first impression that I posted earlier in this thread) - definitely the worst I have ever seen on any vehicle I've ever owned (and that includes my beloved 89 Ford Escort). And for those arguing it's a Jeep get over it - I expect my jeep to have exposed welds, crude on-road ride and handling, and limited comforts. I don't expect it to have aluminum can sheet metal (tin can might be an improvement) or paint coverage that doesn't even come close to my son's Radio Flyer tricycle.

Anyways, getting back to my thoughts on the touch up paint - I ended up deciding not to touch up anything because it would have looked horrible trying to apply so much touch up paint. I really don't care about the looks, but if I ever decide to sell my JK, the touch up paint would surely bring attention to the matter, whereas now you don't notice it much unless you look real close. Off the top of my head here's areas with missing paint on my JK: behind side door hinges, crease between cowl and front fender, crease behind gas cap, behind rear door hinges, roll bar, and jack storage area. The paint missing behind and around the rear hinges is really bad if you take the plastic covers off. Course I still love my JK and would not trade it for anything, but that doesn't mean I won't continue to complain about the crappy paint job that Jeep owners shouldn't have to settle for.

If I were you I would scrap the touch up idea and leave it as is. There is primer there, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about rust - just keep that area protected with wax along with the rest of your paint job. Let us know what you decide to do!

+1. to pay this much for a brand new vehicle and not have decent paint coverage is ridiculous. my motorcycle has better paint coverage

Just go wheel in some brush, and you wont see the missing paint cause the scratches in the clear coat will distract you.
Should be priced lower then, for the lower quality.
