Default Moab

Hi everyone I've been lurking on here for a few weeks and have been trying to decide which JKU I'm going to order and would like some feed back. My sister works for Chrysler so I'm eligible for Employee pricing. I'm leaning towards the new Moab in Rock Lobster, stupid name but I really like the color. The JK will be a daily driver and I'm not really concerned about has mileage ( other car is an IE SRT 392 Challenger). I guess what I'm asking is the Moab edition worth the 5300 price or is it just all cosmetic? Thanks!!

In my opinion, (and I'm sure ill hear about it), I think all the special packages are no good. The Moab, the Islander, the Arctic, etc. I think on the Moab's case, it's a Rubicon with the AEV hood, ($750), steel bumpers (Mopar? $1,100), and of course, the decal set. I just think all those are there to spark people into buying a wrangler who are on the fence. If I was spending your money, I'd buy a Rubicon, (or maybe hold out for a 10 yr anniversary edition if it ever comes together if you want something a bit more exclusive), and put your extra $5,300 towards some mods. I'm sure I left a couple of options off the list above, but the Chrysler suits aren't going to okay it if Sony gonna make 'em money, so you're paying a premium to one extent or another.

Just my $.02

I appreciate the honesty. In guess my only concern with the Rubi is I will be driving 70 miles freeway round trip to work. This means 75-80 miles per hour and was thinking the 4.11 gears would be a little over kill. I live in Chicago and will be talking it to the UP of Michigan frequently but it will be 90/20 highway off road. The Moab is based of the Sahara with 3.73 gears. And I will be towing a sled/ATV so about 1000 pounds max.

You can option a Rubicon with 3.73's if you really wanted to.

You can? I was not aware of this. That might be the deciding factor. I will probably never go bigger that 33 inch tires anyway. I will call the dealer tomorrow and see if that is an option. I'm also worried the Rock Lobster is going to be a little to pinkish red. Deciding between that or Crush. My Challenger is white with blue stripes so I don't want white or black.

Look at the Jeep website. You can go to build vehicle and option out a Rubicon with 3.73's. I'll be honest, it seems like a Sahara may be a better fit for you. I mean if you are never going over a 33 inch tire and the vehicle is going to be 99% street then it really doesn't sound like there is any reason for you to pay the extra money for the upgraded transfer case, front axle, lockers and sway bar system that comes with the Rubicon.

Yes you're right that's why I was originally looking at the Moab. The Moab I priced out was just under 41k and with my Employee discount it's right at 35.5 k and its based on the Sahara with a few upgrades thrown in. I'm still leaning towards the Moab just Trying to decide on color now.

I ordered my Sahara in May without knowing about the Moab until today. I spent $1800 on the AEV bumper (shipping, skid plate, winch cover), $600 on powder coating the wheels black, $600 on rock rails (not shown in pic), and will spend another $1000-1200 for the rear AEV bumper (shipping). That puts me at an additional $4000 so far, yikes! If I wanted to add a locker to my rear 3.73 Dana 44, another easy $1500. I'd say Chrysler is spot on with pricing, and you're getting a hood upgrade for free!

Default Rock Lobster...still scratching my head

Not quite sure what to make of Rock Lobster...It appears to be awfully pink. It looks a little bit like that old, hard Bazooka bubble gum I used to get in my Halloween bag.
