Stock JK TechBulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.
Hey guys. Lesson learnt I was in 2H entered a relatively shallow puddle without checking the bottom, on the way out backend sunk in, switched to 4h front sunk in slightly. Got the max trax out and recovered. From start to finish took about 5-6mins. Was wondering if my rear diff breather was under water?
It's been so long that I can't recall where that breather originally stopped. There's no reason to not have that extended up behind your taillight I'd presume the small check valve at the end would have stopped water from flowing in even if it was underwater. If you are really worried about it, change the gear oil and play it safe.
yeah, i am like russ on this one. I didnt want to comment because i couldnt remember where the stock one ends up. i routed mine to behind my taillight years ago.
but i think you should be safe.
Pretty easy to climb under there and check the oil as if there is water in there it should show up by now with oil coloration issues. I change mine annually anyway.
Couple of quarts of gear oil are pretty cheap, and grab some 5/16" fuel line to extended that breather tube higher. I figured if my jeep was ever in water deeper than the taillight I was gonna have a whole lot more issues than worrying about water in my diff.
