Default Need to know soft top compatibility

Hey there everyone,

Just wanted to se if anyone knows if a factory soft top off a 2011 JKU with hardware will fit a 2008 JKU. And if there are any mods needed to make it fit.

Thanks

If you move the door surrounds over then you should be all set. You're aware they changed the side latch design from 09 to 10.

what do you mean by move the door surrounds over? I don't have any experience with the soft top and I'm even unsure of the parts. What latch system changed?

Any soft top will work on any jeep as long as you have the door surrounds that go with that particular top. The 07-09 soft tops used clip in channels on the door surrounds. The 10-13 soft tops use a cable system and door surrounds with no clip in channels.

So, sorry guys not trying to be stupid, can the later model surrounds be used on an earlier model or do I need the earlier model surrounds...then can use either model year soft top.

Thanks in advance

You can use 08 door surrounds on any jeep year as long as the canvas top is from an 07-09 model. As an example. Imagine the door surrounds as being a portion of the top and not seperate pieces. The surrounds and the top have to work together, if they do, the whole top system can go on any year jeep.

Okay, that is what I'm trying to determine. I have an '08. I have the possibility of purchasing an '11 soft top complete with hardware, door surrounds, etc. Will that soft top work on my '08 JKU or do I need to get '08 hardware.

Great, thank you very much, sorry to be such a noob but I've never had the soft top before, looking forward to having one and sheeding my hard top for good during the summer months.
