I know you're excited about making modifications. I was too. My guidance would be t read the forum for a few months before making any decisions. If you don't, you may end up making a costly mistake.

After a while, you'll realize which people on the forum know what they're talking about. One of those is planman. Here's one of the "35s with no lift" threads,

- from stock to 35"s then to 37"s

- from stock to new bumper then to bumper w/tire carrier

plan well and buy once!
X2... Take your JK out on some trails first and decide exactly what your trying to accomplish with it first. I.E. Rock crawling, beach, basic camping trails, etc... And then go from there... I personally am trying to setup up my JKU to handle all terrain within reason... Your JK is quite capable right off the dealers lot....

I am seeing that I need to start putting away some money to properly do what I want. Not exactly sure yet what that will be but as suggested, I'll just poke around here & see what I like.

For now I just like going on moderate trails. As the saying goes "Daily driver - if I roll it I'm screwed" so nothing extreme. Honestly I just enjoy splashing in big puddles & flinging mud lol!

I do need better tires for next winter so I'll just go with that for now. I'm not sure I understand about the Duratracs. If I get them I need spacers? I guess I just go with a better AT in my same size for now & save my pennies. I'm putting a Trektop on for summer so between that & tires *cha-ching*.

Thanks for all the input & for that link to planman - tried to find that last night. You guys really know your stuff & I appreciate your help!

Honestly, if you are going to save ur pennies, keep the tires you have. I wouldn't spend any money for a diff A/T 255... Those tires will suit you just fine in most terrains to include snow.... You said that you enjoy water/mud so I would relocate my breathers for $24... Front & rear diff's and transfer case... Then relocate your mirrors for another $60 to avoid tickets with ur doors off.... Like I stated before, don't waste ur money on 255-265's if you want to go to a 33"-35" tire... You won't be happy with it. I spent about $1500 on my 265 mud countries and wished I would have waited to do more research......

Battlefrog-
I understand what you're saying about wasting money on different A/Ts but the reason I want different ones is that in the winter my road does not always get plowed down like main roads do & the snow just gets packed down. Last winter on that packed snow I had zero traction & at times no control of the vehicle. I've lived on this road all my life & it's like this every winter & I've never had that much trouble with other vehicles. I don't like the tread pattern of the stock tires & most of my friends have made remarks about the straight tread pattern as well. It went fine as long as there was snow & in several inches it went better than anything I've ever driven. I just was hoping to get something with a more aggressive tread for next winter. The thought of studded tires even crossed my mind. Believe me, I really would rather not plunk down 200 some dollars each for tires but I didn't enjoy not being able to steer my Jeep around curves or slow it down on hills. Just hitting a bump on a straight stretch sent me sideways. Thank God there was never anyone coming the other way. Around here they won't put studs in tires if they aren't brand new. I've heard of getting them stiped - maybe that's an option for my existing tires? I don't know. I just didn't like white-knuckling it everyday.

You could honestly go to sears, pep boys, walmart etc. And get a decent A/T for much cheaper with aggressive tread. The BFG A/T KO's are $145-$160 a tire at sears for the sizes your looking at (255-275).. They have a very good review in ALL terrains to include snow... Also, if you've got a discount tire near you try them as well. Hope this helps...

I should have been a bit more subtle in regards to "wasting money" as well. If my prior posts came out a bit harsh I apologize... My goal like 98% of the other forum members is to give the best advice possible....

No no! No worries! Not harsh at all. I do see your point & that's why this has been a real eye-opener for me in regard to the cost. I've done it with other things in the past - buy something & wish you had just bought the better one the first time. I thought "I want different tires, maybe I'll just go bigger..." but now I see I need to plan better & wait til I can afford what I want. It's all good, dude & you have been very helpful. No offense taken whatsoever.
