Need some expert advice so I don't get screwed...
Title says it all. Guys, I am a complete NEWBIE here in the world of Jeep modification. I'm a little confused about tires & rims so I'd like some advice so I don't get ripped off at the garage. I have a stock 2010. I just put Bushwacker flat style flares on it. Can I run 35s without a lift now that the wheel wells are opened up more? And (please don't laugh too loud) what does that even mean when referring to "35s". What are the stock tires? I want Duratracs but don't have a clue what size I can put on my stock rims. When I got the flares put on the garage guy starts talking lift kits & rims, etc & I don't know enough to keep from getting taken for a ride. I know you can help me out & I hope y'all got a chuckle out of my cluelessness!
Thank you in advance.
Humble student,
Chelle

OK thanks guys for the input & yeah, Karl it is a sweet color we got! I ordered mine & had it a week when several others started showing up. It sure does turn heads. Now I have to keep changing mine to make it stand out from the others!
Rubbing the fenders isn't the only thing you have to worry about. You are going to need spacers to run 35's on stock wheels, you will probably have to cut/bend the pinch seams, you may have to throw some washers in to limit your turning radius, you will have to recalibrate your speedo, you should strengthen the "C's" to prevent costing yourself some money down the road, you should think about a rear bumper or OR-Fab carrier to hold your spare.
I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just suggesting you do you homework first. Read the sticky from WOL in the modified section about tires and lifts, then I would suggest searching for and reading Planman's threads about running 35's with little or no lift. You can can do it right, but you can also do it very wrong.
Just my .02.

Cool. That's why I came here so you all could point me in the right direction for my research. It all sounds a little scary - pinch seams, speedos & "C's", oh my... Lots to think about but when I'm ready to do this at least I will know what I'm talking about! Much appreciated!

Your stock rims will work with the tires suggested, just need spacers (Spidertrax is a popular option.

I did a bunch of reading last night & now I'm not sure I DO want 35s. It's gonna be a lot more money than I ever expected & that's if I do it myself - which I won't. I definitely need different tires by next winter. I love what I'm reading about Duratracs. My tires are 255/75R17 & they don't have that exact size so I thought since I'm "changing" the size, 35s would look nice. Not gonna happen right now tho so now my question becomes this - what size Duratrac can I put on my current rims? 265/70R17?

Within 3 months of buying 35"s I went out and bought 37"s. Make a definite plan on how you want your Jeep in the end, and buy accordingly.
I have had my Jeep for 15 months now and here are my mistakes:
- from stock to 35"s then to 37"s
- from stock to 2.5" lift then to 4" lift
- from stock to new bumper then to bumper w/tire carrier
plan well and buy once!
