New JK Shutters in reverse
Has anyone experienced issues with the 2007 t0 2010 JK series Jeep Wrangler automatic, 4WD shuttering or jumping while in reverse? This happens when the vehicle is backing up an incline. The dealer suggests a breaking in period of 5,000 miles to correct the problem but I find this to be questionable because other owners are still experiencing this with more than 5,000 miles recorded.
Any help appreciated.

Sorry automatic trans. This is not a violent jumping action but enough to stop and ask yourself what is going on.
Thanks good to know this is not an production issue.

Mine does it every now and then. I have the lifetime powertrain warranty so if it goes out i'll just get a new one. BUt i have no idea what it could be. Try it after 5000 miles and if it still does it, take it into the dealer to have checked

My Jeep had the shudder in reverse and I brought it to the dealer twice. First time they couldn't replicate the problem, and I told them that whoever was going to road test the Jeep, that they needed to back up on an incline in order to replicate the shudder but they didn't and that was that. Over the past several months it happened more and more frequently so I figured that I'd have the dealer check it again seeing that it was going in for some other issues. From what I understand they replaced the transmission pump and mounts and they made some adjustments because they found too much play in the shifter when in gear (auto). I know I'm being vague as to what was done but I never received the work order as the file is still open awaiting some back ordered parts. It's been over a month since the work was done and I haven't experienced any problems since.
My back ordered parts should be in early next week so I'll have an exact answer as to what was done and I'll let you know.
BTW, it was a real PITA trying to shift the transfer case and most of the time it resulted in some grinding gears. I read the manual and this forum to make sure I was doing things right and I was. Since they worked on the transmission the transfer case shifts smoothly every time.

I thought that only happened with leaf springs (seems like the JK's upper and lower control arms would prevent hop the same way trac bars on a leaf spring set up prevent hop)?!?
I get the shutter a bit, especially when backing my quad trailer up my driveway.

i cant explain it, but something to do with backing and loosing traction, loaded and unloaded weight and sprung and unsprung weight in the suspension. sorry wish i could explain the principal of it
