It is NOT 68° outside anymore... I could barely touch the steering wheel at lunchtime, however when I start the jeep, the outside temp displays 68° (likely the temp outside when I started up this morning)
I figured it would catch up in a few seconds. I drove about 5 minutes with no change. I ran several errands, which compelled me to start and stop the engine half a dozen times or more.
According to Jeep, it's still 68° outside.
The sweat on the back of my neck disagrees.
The direction was updating, as was DTE and Gas Mileage.
Anyone else seen this?

Didn't dawn on me until the brain fog cleared a couple minutes later.
...Note my nickname - It was fitting at that moment.
Jeep needs to sell a Wrangler thats just a body shell on a frame. Because its seems like almost everyone who buys a new Wrangler immeadiatly replaces darn near everything on it with after market parts and mods. And now a new temp sensor?
And I get the shit around here for complaining about the Wranglers faults? Maybe I need to change out every part with aftermarket non Jeep parts too, then I'll be "in love' with my Jeep like the rest?
Just alittle sarcastic humor.

I'd like to be able to buy a completed vehicle for a reasonable price, by picking all the parts individually and having the completed product delivered. I reckon this would be possible minus the reasonable price. Don't they want something like $80k for just a hemi transplant?
It's similiar to my wish to purchase cable channels one at a time instead of bundled: good idea; will never happen.
Perhaps you gots some mud on your temp, sensor and It is like oh, this is 68 Degree mud... not sure where the sensor is though... -Captian
Mines done this since day one. I assumed this was normal operation. It would seem like they could have it update without the ignition turned on. I've had the same battery in a digital thermometer for seven years.
I figure there's some form of error filter in there. Throws out huge differences in tempurature untill they persist for a fixed amount of time. I've driven through the mountains & watched the temps go up and down with altitude. It updated pretty quickly for single degree variations.

on how it caluclates the temp. There is a time delay of sorts. When you get in the vehicle and get going, the temp will read what it read when it was shut off last. This will change only after you travel at a certain speed for a specific time....say 20 mph for 10 minutes for example. I think it has to do with where the sensor is loacted.....and by moving for so long......the sensor has a better chance to get to ambient temp again. Makes sense if you ask me. Mine seems to work according to these specifics. If you get in a and go the the store down the street....you may not be going far/fast enuf. Doa search and see if you can find the actual data. It may have been another site....but I doubt it.
