Default oil change after 2500 miles....wtf?

I got my first oil change about 2500 miles ago when it told me to. I a running sythetic now. My little sticker from the oil place says i have 500 more miles before they recommend another one. My "change oil" light came on...wtf??? Shouldn't I be able to got at least 3000 miles possibly longer with the synthetic?

Check your oil. Most Jeeps eat up oil.

That's just an indicator for you to change it when it hits its "change me now" mileage. Usually if you take it somewhere they will reset the computer, but if you want to cut it off:

Turn your key to the ON position, do not start it.
Press the gas pedal down 3 times, then turn the Jeep off.

Should do the trick

Mine came on the first time at 2500 miles on the nose, I changed and reset it. It just came on again at 5000 miles (an additional 2500) on the nose. I must be a very consistent driver.

I think I read somewhere that the oil change interval is determined by the computer that takes into account several variables such as how you drive, short trips/long trips, run hours, cold starts, etc. Mine doesn't follow any set mileage, it just pops up at random times. If I'm using dino oil I follow the recomendation of the puter but if I'm using synthetic oil I'll just reset it and change it the next time it pops up.
