Default oil change light at 2540 miles

How does it know when it's time for a change? and isn't 2500 miles a bit soon?
Also the ESP lights came on briefly today for no apparent reason, and then went off after a mile or two.
Does anyone have any explinations for me?

That sounds reasonable to me, guess I call the dealer and make an apointment. First year of oil changes are on the house, I hope that switching to Mobil One is acceptiable to them.

Pull the stick look at the color, smell it...see how it looks. Just don't taste it Is it low???? 3000 seems to be the recomended time frame I tend to lean toward how I've been using her and how the oil looks. I may push it anouther 1-2 thousand... or do it early....I'm not sweating a warrenty ether so your call on that.

It's duty cycle based, not mileage.

I changed my oil at 2,400 miles (6 months of ownership) then the light came on for the first time around 2,700 miles. I think its just based on every 3,000 miles.

well I just pulled the stick and it's 75% in the safe zone and it's clear and only slightly brown. My guess is that the break in oil has done it's job and it's time to flush it out.

I'm guessing if you don't hit the duty cycle criteria before 6K miles, it probably will automatically come on @ 6K since that is the max recommendation by the owner's manual.

Must be nice. I've had mine come on as early as 1700 miles but usually around 2400.

I believe there was a TSB on this issue and mentioned that to the dealer last time I was in there. Supposedly they checked that but still having to change around 2400 miles.
