Default Oil Change Notification?

Hey I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler.....brought it new.....should I get some sort of dash indicator letting me know it's time ta change the oil? I've had the oil changed twice now....each at 3000 miles and no "change oil" light.....does it have one?

yeah it has one. you could have had someone disable it.

i believe its around 3,000 or sooner. i would read the owners manual if you have one. it should tell you in there...

I know mine goes off every 3,000 so i go to figure out how to turn it off forever instead of when it is indicated.

On my '08 its not actually a dedicated light, its in the green odometer display thing. It simply reads "change oil" as you start the Jeep (and a warning ding) then it does away while you drive. Oh and mine went on at 8000k = 5000miles.

My 2010's change oil indicator (a *ding* accompanied by a message flashing at start-up) went off at around 5,500 or so. The dealer reset it when I had the oil changed at about 5,750. I'm at 6,350, so it will be a while before it goes off again, I suspect.

The owner's manual indicates that oil changes should be every 6,000 miles. The maintainence schedule in the manual is set for intervals of 6,000. However, my TJ's oil change schedule was every 3,000.

The manual does say 6000 miles. On some earlier JKs the warning would come at 3000 miles. Jeep then changed the computer flash so the warning comes based on duty cycle of the engine. A lot of wide open throttle, idling, towing, etc will cause the computer to send the warning more often.

If you are getting a warning every 3000 miles (exactly) contact your dealer about getting the updated computer flash. The warning will then happen after higher mileage than 3000.

My change oil light comes on around 3k miles and the manual says to change at 6k. I use synthetic oil and usually change around 5k. It will be time for my inspection and oil change next month, I will ask my dealer about changing the reminder indicator as it's really annoying. I've been listening to it for over a month now.

You can reset it yourself. IIRC, you just turn the ignition on (don't start it), then depress the skinny pedal to the floor 3 times within 10 seconds. Turn the ignition off. When you restart, it should be gone.

I have had mine go off anywhere from 2400-4000 miles on my 2010. I have read that it is duty cycle based and that is what will make it go off, I am not sure if that it true.
