Default Oil Changes

My new F150 says that I only need to change the oil every 5,000miles. I noticed that my JK says every 3,000 miles.

Is there some technical reasons for the differences?

F= found

O= on

R= road

D= dead

just joking w/t you

no cleaning burning vehicles like honda and now Jeep don't dirty up the oil like they use to there for we only have to change it at 3000 miles or 5000 km

but if you off road often or in deep water you might look into changing it more often and use a better quality oil in her

What if I use synthetic???
I had it changed at the dealer the other day, and they still put on the sticker that the next oil change is due in 3000 miles. I didn't notice until I got home, and I forgot to call back to ask about it.

oil wether syn or dino does not break down w/t usage just that you loose the detergents and other add ons in them w/t time

syn just allows better coverage to the moving parts

but either way you still need to change the filter at 3000 miles so why not change your oil too

I just hit 2500 miles this morning now my jeep is saying change the oil. Does any one know if that is just something programed in the computer or what.

From owners manual: "The engine oil change indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the engine oil change interval may fluctuate dependent upon your personal driving style."

Yeah, the Owners Manual says to change the oil and filter every 6 months or 6,000 miles. My dealership is recommending 3,000. I usually do it at 4,000.
