For my wife's VW, they told us that if we had it changed somewhere else, it would void the warranty. I don't think that's really true though.

I switched to Synthetic on my first oil change at 3K. I since had 2 more every 3K now it seems a waste of money to be changing Syn oil every 3K when Jeep warranty excepts every 6K miles and the oil is capable of going longer. Im thinking of having them adjust their computer for me to to show changes due at least every 5k.
The filter Im not savvy on does that have to be changed every 3 K or will it be ok for 5K.

After the first change, I started using Mobil One oil and filter and will change every 5,000 miles. I usually put on about 1,000/month. Rotate the tires at the same time.

I've always changed my oil every 3K in all the vehicles I've owned. Is there any reason why I should have it changed at the dealer?

Switched the JK over to mobil1 synth with a mobil1 filter at 3K. I normally do a complete oil/filter change at the priscribed 3k for the first 3 years or so, then go to a midified schedule of 3k change oil and filter. Next 3K change filter and add a quart. Next 3K complete change again, and so forth.
Been doing it that way on my 94XJ, (bought new in 94), since 97. After almost 14 years, it still has great oil pressure and no leaks.
BTW here is a pretty good oil test comparison between Mobil1 and Amsoil. Both synthetic of course. http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/s.../oil-life.html The point I'm making here is, look at the miliage they racked up.
Even a plus for those of you who use Dino.

It seems that you used Google to come here for JK info.... Use that little trick for an oil forum, read until you are crazy. Read some more. Then form an opinion that you are comfortable with.

Don't have to worry about changing the oil in my F-150.
