Well lets just say neither of us were going to let the jeep overheat, so we helped it cool down by putting the heat on. If either of us didnt it would have totally overheated/boiled over. Should we have waited for that?
100% of what I've seen people on here say is the 12oclock mark is normal and no one really goes past that, and certainly not to 3/4 mark unless there is a problem. YOUR jeep runs past the 3/4 mark? sorry that isnt normal on a JK.
My fan never stopped work and I don't believe Mr T's did either. Mine would actually be on high speed and still be overheating. If you looked at my link you would see the pics of why it was really doing it. Can you say MUD

I just went off roading today for the first time since my radiator cap was replaced by the dealership. It overheated just getting to the place after and hour and a half on the highway. Turned the heat on, and that took care of it. For a while. It kept climbing up to 3/4 on the dial and I'd turn the heat on or find a shady area to rest. The outside temp was 70 degrees. At one point I pulled over to take a break, and the coolant resevoir was hanging at the bottom of the jeep, below the front axle!! It had jostled out of place. I'm surprised it was still attached!! On the way home, back on the highway the temp dropped back to the half way mark, so I finally turned the heat off. When I got home, the resevoir was almost empty! What the heck?!
Driving around with the heat blasting you bites. Shouldn't I be able to run the AC if it's warm/hot out? I'm headed back to the dealer this week for another stab at fixing the overheating problem.

i finally got my head under the hood this weekend, and, you were right on the money, Tim.
interior was caked, even though the exterior was pretty clear. gave it a cleaning and no problems yet.
thanks for the info, saved me a trip to the dealer.
now i know after the next trip to the barrons in a couple of weeks to give it a good cleaning afterwards...

Has it gone up past the 1/2 mark at all?

well sonnuffabitch. decided to toss on the a/c this weekend when i was at a light and my flippin temp gauge ran right up to 3/4 again. killed the a/c, and it just kinda hovered there and slowly started to cool down.
i know that since the doors are off for the summer, that i have no real use for AC, but, sometimes that "cool breeze" effect is nice when it is in the mid-to upper 80's. that, and i'm sure if the wife and i need to go anywhere on the fancy side, the doors may have to go back on and the ac would be a must so as not to destroy the little lady's hair.
any thoughts? i turn you to before i turn to the dealer.
and for the record, my radiator is clean. spent a good hour or so blasting it with a hose from the inside and out. didn't see anything else coming from it when i stopped (water ran clean).
this sucks.

Hey Tom I just remembered you can unbolt the air cond from the rad, thats what i had to do to change the rad. You'll have some play to move air cond away from rad then and get in there good. There are 4bolts on the front on the air cond and 1 on the side by the air cond lines, just take off the grill and you'll see the front ones on each side top and bottom.
air cond lines one small bolt

Glad I found this post, we recently went mudding and ended up messing up my idler pulley (dealer replaced it for free). Everything seemed back to normal so we went wheeling up to the point of a mountain to watch the fireworks tonight and on a steep incline suddenly I heard a "BING" and looked down to see the temp light on and the needle almost to the red. Pulled off at our spot and popped the hood to find it quite toasty inside (coolant box was shaking and I could hear bubbling from near the radiator). I'll spray her down tomorrow like this thread suggested and hope that fixes the problem. Thanks for your continued updates on this problem!
