Default Overdrive?

When should you use it?

When should you not?

In town I never use it because the max speed limit is 40 MPH and there is no need for it. Pay attention to your cruising rpm on the highway, as long as you are in that range driving in 3rd gear at whatever mph it is, you will be fine.

I leave mine on all the time as well. I do turn it off for hills, or when merging on the highway to keep the Jeep in it's powerband when trying to get up to speed. Even at lower "around town" speeds the OD will engage and be more fuel efficient. If you have larger than stock tires and haven't re-geared you may find more need to keep it off.

The wording wore off of my button, it's blank now so i dont have OD.

The only times i shut it off are hills/towing. Otherwise it's fine with auto/4.10's + 33's.

I would disagree with most of these posts. I find with the OD engaged in the area I live, simi hilly it continually kicks in and out which I find very annoying. I can't see how it can be giving me better MPG. So I found it works best going down hill and that about the only time its on. Just my 2cents.

Am need to ask you guys about your OD,

I was climbing up a few thousand ft. mountain to go snowboarding the other day and had constant shifting issues..

I was climbing at about 40 mph and the OD would kick in dropping the RPM down to 1500 RPM, then it would have to downshift every 10 seconds to get back up to speed. (stock jeep at the moment)

I decided to turn OD off, but nothing changed, it would still upshift I thought the RPM's would not drop to 1500 but they still did.

To me is seems like the OD button is doing nothing, anyone else have this issue?

I had to drop the shifter down to 2nd with the OD "off" to get the downshifting to stop and then the RPM was at about 2800.

Thanks for any input.

Nothing changed when you hit the OD Off button because under the circumstances it was never getting into overdrive. It was shifting between torque converter lock and torque converter unlock in 3rd gear.
