Default Overfilling at the pump

Just recently I've run into a problem when fueling up my JK.

Pumps no longer shut off before fuel starts coming out of the filler hole. I've played with different insertion levels of the pump itself as well as not setting the fuel rate at the top speed (one or 2 clicks down). I've also tried it at multiple fueling locations to see if it was a type of pump or w/e.

Anybody have any ideas what could be causing this? It's not a huge deal since I keep my cap from getting fuel on it but it's becoming really annoying.

Just started with mine at 43,000 miles. It happened several times over the holidays but did not on my last 2 fill ups.

Default Check out the thread

Check out the thread posted in the prev. posting. This is a growing problem and so far the only hope seems to be getting a new gas tank. When the Jeep's empty, then it isn't too hard to fill to 16 or 17 gallons and then slow way down for the last gallon. However, when you just need to top it off before a trip...its gonna be gas all over the fender and bumper. NOT GOOD.

Mine has never been as bad as described in these posts, but I can tell you that since the beginning, I have never tried to top off the tank as I have with other cars I have owned. When it stops, it seems to be FULL! First few times I went for the top-off...gussh...gas every where!

You don't have the problem then. It has nothing to do with topping off (though that would certainly cause it.)

My 07 JK did this every single time I filled up after some point. Dealer never would fix anything about it. That one was lemoned for other issues.

My 09 has not done it yet.... fortunately.

Mine started at 45,000 miles. I just don't fill up until the light comes on and stop at 17 gallons. Not a fix but it's better than fuel all over the Jeep. Seems like a lot of JK's are having this problem.

most important thing you can do is file a complaint.. this needs to become a recall.

Mine started doing this at around 38,000. I'm at 40,600 miles now and is still doing it.

I just fill to 16-17 gallons then stop now.

My wife's Grand Caravan, when it clicks, you are done. If you try to top it, it will spill out. My Jeep not so much, I can usually get one to two more pulls after it clicks off the first time. Anything after that, it will spill. Also sometimes it might be the pump itself. Their automatic deal will get gummed up or something and not click off. Sounds like that might be a Chrsyler thing...

I filled up yesterday and it kept shutting off, so I thought it was full, got in, my Fuel gauge only showed between 3/4 and Full. Not sure why it did that. Will have to fill up again and see if it was the pump or a problem.
