PART info needed - wheel stud ( lug nut stud )
i broke off a wheel stud. i called the local auto shops and they have no info.
first question .... i should be able to replace just the broken stud, right? one shop told me i have to replace all five ....
part number? .... can i get a universal stud of does it have to be from DC? anyone have the size of the stud?
thanks in advance!

i haven't broken one on any jeep, TJ or the JK, broke 4 on the same night in an 84 Camaro, noticed when it was hanging on buy the last lug nut at 5 MPH pulling into the driveway. I broke one in the '96 F-150, and 2 in the '98 F-150. In the case of that truck I bought 5 after the first one, and just kept them in the glove compartment. I've never replaced anything other than the stud that's broken, although technically, I believe you're supposed to replace the rotor.

no problem at all....
Replacement lug studs are readily available from your local dealer and thru aftermarket sources (auto parts stores). Any competent parts person can locate the part number and get this part for you. Only the damaged stud needs to be replaced, the hub is NOT harmed in any manner by replacing a broken stud. Replace the lug nut also. Carry an old lug nut with you to insure thread matchup, this will save you a trip back if a screwup happens. You should never drive a broken stud out with a hammer, nor install a stud by driving it in the hole. The proper way is to remove the hub, have the broken stud pressed out, and the new one pressed in. In an emergency situation you can tap the broken stud out with a hammer and punch. To reinstall, push the stud in the hole from the rear, install a thick flat washer of the proper diameter around the stud on the front of the hub. Take the new lug nut and lightly lub the outside end, turn it around and screw it on the stud backwards. As you tighten the nut against the flat washer it will pull the stud flush against the rear of the hub. Unscrew the nut, discard the washer, remove all traces of lube from the nut and stud and you are good to go.....

1/2 by 20 is the thread size, not sure of length, you could just knock one good one out and take it to the auot parts store, I would try napa or if there is a local parts store, not a national chain, they dont seem to know squat besides what their computer tells them.
