Default PCV thingy......

I see where the PCV thing needs to be changed at 30,000 miles. Few questions about it:

where is it located?
What does it do?
How hard is it to change myself?
How important is it to change at 30,000 miles?

THANKS

It's located in the center of the driver side valve cover with a 1" hose leading to it. It's a one way valve that allows blow-by gases in the crankcase to vent out. Replacing it can help restore a rough idle in some vehicles. I changed mine recently and the pcv valve took less than 2 minutes to change out on past Jeeps. On my JK, it took me nearly an hour! That thing is in there! And I had to remove the coil pack to gain access to it. Although I just unbolted it and set it aside with the ignition wires still connected.

If you do it yourself, be careful and have patience. That's also why it took me so long. The valve cover is plastic plus I had to lean on other components to gain leverage. I didn't want to break something else while replacing a $10 part.

It's not essential that you change it at 30k. I believe the manual recommends you inspect it at 30K. But it's such a pain to remove and such a cheap part, I don't see why you wouldn't just pop a new one in there if you go through the trouble of getting the old one out.

Where are you all finding the PCV valves? I called 3 different parts stores and they've all said they're not available. Autozone has them online, but I was hoping to just pick one up somewhere.

At my local dealer, they are $9.95. They have lots of them.

Sometimes, the dealer parts department isn't a bad place to get parts.

How do you test the valve to see if you need to replace or not ? as this is maybe part of my OIL issue.

It's $10, just replace it and see if it fixed the problem. That's how you test it.

That, and removing it to test it can destroy it, from what some people are saying.
