Thanks for the info on the header seal. However, this doesn't appear to be the problem with mine. It appears the dealer did seal it when then replaced the header seal. I have poured water over this area for extended periods and not created a leak.

However, I have found something that appears to be the problem. I removed the pillar trim and watched for water while my wife sprayed water on the top. I noticed what appeared to be a seam of water on the upper door seal (I have a 2-door). Also, when she sprayed the upper rear corner it flooded in and wet my back.

After looking closer it appears there are two problems. Apparently, the rear upper portion of the door at the rear top corner has a clear leak path straight into the jeep.
The second is the water appears to be running down the inner portion of the upper door seal and it runs down to the portion where the freedom top has a foam seal and then a rubber seal. The water runs in behind the seal and then follows the metal A-pillar down until it drips down on the dash.

I haven't tried any fixes for this yet and if anyone has already solved this please let me know .

I'm taking it to the dealer in the morning and showing them what I found. Maybe they will fix it. I'm not holding my breath ! If they fail again at least I know where to start and will go from there.

OK - What gives?

I took my Jeep to the dealer for the third time and we take it around and I spray it with a water hose while he is inside - and you guessed it no leak!!

The day before I did the same thing and it leaked on both sides.

Today it rained and yep - you guessed it - leaks on both sides!!!

I have checked the header seal and it is sealed from the last visit. I will try the silicone fix but am really suspecting it is from the upper door seal.

Has anyone done anything with the upper door seal?

I found that the A pillar top leaks if the front of the jeep face downhill, while there is no leak if the back of the jeep face downhill. May be your dealer is on flat pavement.

I have a persistent leak on our two door passenger side. The water comes in at the front of the door and drips in at the bottom of the door at the tangency point of the radius. It flows over sill and on the carpet. It has been at the dealer three times. They put a new door seal on and adjusted the door forward. Leaked bad again yesterday.

We are putting the hard top back on soon for the winter. I would like to solve this before then.

Any ideas about the lower leak ? The dash area is dry. Just the carpet gets soaked.

It must be following the seal down, then as the seal goes horizontal, it enters the interior. I just don't know what to do next.

Mine does the opposite. Well I should say it leaks "less" and every once and a while "not at all" when the front is down. Pretty much leaks all the time though. I still think it is ridiculous.

Any updates on this? I've had my '08 JK for one week today (!!) and discovered that my carpet is wet in the front foot well on both driver and passenger sides. It rained once in the week I've had it and I didn't notice any drips from the Freedom Top, must be a leak from the A Pillar or lower door area.

I had some luck with the dealer fixing the problem (and they added a little to the problem). I would try taking it to the dealer and ask them to do any seal TSBs and see what they can do to adjust the door and such. My dealer had a body shop use their leak test equipment to find some of the leaks and it helped. Still leaks a little on occassion - sometimes does a little sometimes doesn't.

Overall it is at least to a minimum and no more wet knees for me. I have also recently bought some Dow 111 from MSC and it seems to help some but then everything has a greasy film (clear but greasy). So if you go this route I would use it in the trouble areas and areas where you don't typically come into contact getting in and out.

I have come to the conclusion that Jeep really has dropped the ball on the leak thing. If you look at how the water can get in it is amazing that any water stays out. My opinion is this is just part of their design and just keep working at it to minimize it in the areas where it is leaking.

What was way different about them?

I had three versions put on my old JK and they all looked identical except the AA or AD, etc at the end of the number. Also "functioned" identical.
