What kind of 5w40 are you guys using? I needed to do an oil change today and the only 5w40 I could find at the store was Mobil 5w40 for diesel trucks. Is that what that weight is generally used for? I was hesitant to get it since it was labeled for a diesel engine. I ended up just getting some 5w30 Pennzoil high mileage and a Mopar filter for the liberty.

I use amsoil DEO 5w-40 . Here's some oil analysis results: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/stoc...esults-257928/

Most oils rated for diesel applications are also rated for gasoline (for example, a SN and/or SM rating). Here's an overview of API oil ratings: API Engine Oil Lubricant Specifications - oilspecifications.org

2007 with 75,000 miles. I run 5w-30 conventional, just changed the egr valve. I change the pcv valve every few years, clean the throttle body often, and have an oil catch can. No complaints except for oil consumption. Its a very reliable engine. I am very curious about trying 5w-40 next oil change. I have a good feeling about it. 👍

Default '08 60,000 miles...

2008 X with ~60,000 miles. Tapping under the hood for past few months. Loud enough that passengers tell me about it. Going to get it checked but kind of sad when a vehicle with this few miles has a potentially big problem...

no problems with engine.

But

Manual pops out of first gear. had it replaced at 90K miles and the new one started at 120K. just dealing with it. sometimes it does it sometimes it doesn't.
needed new radiator, and expansion bottle
Tipm shot. wont lock doors when hot.
needs shocks, rectified with a lift.
drivers seat upholstery wore out. Replaced with new Mopar upholstery.

Blew heater hose. I caught it early before I ran out of coolant. It cold have cost me a new engine.

Plan to install a hemi and better gearbox when it blows.

2008 with 47k. Mostly mountainous curvy roads in mud and snow. No issues thus far, change my oil every 2 months. Rig is always muddy or dusty, unless I drive through a creek. Not sure if the oil changes help, but like I said, no issues thus far.

Sold my 2008 two years ago. Had 84k miles and no issues except for the burning a quart of oil every thousand miles.

That's what I figure, but around here, the game is time over miles. It'll be 20yrs old before it see's 100k. Town is about 25 miles away, but its a good hour in dry conditions with no obstacles. I worry more about mud, blood and beer messing up the engine around here!

My 2010 JK started knocking a few weeks ago. After trouble shooting possible issues with Lifters and timing chain etc it came down to bad Cam shaft bearings. Rebuild at a cost of $5200 or a factory remanufactured engine $6800.

65400 miles. I have been advised by the senior service guys at Jeep dealer to hold receipts and records because they have been having so many issues they expect a recall.

I sent complaint letters to FCA fingers crossed. purchased the JK new 5 years 10 moths ago and it has a 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty. I find it significant that Jeep changed the Power train warranty on the 3.8L from lifetime in 2009 to 5 yr 100,000 miles in 2010.
