Default Possible to switch out auto 08 push button for 12 shifter?

I have been searching for a while but have come up empty on trying to see if it is possible to switch out my AUTOMATIC 08 JKU Sahara push button shifter to the newer style of the 12 or 13 shifter. There is nothing wrong with mine just like the look of the newer style. Just wondering if anyone has done this and if they have how hard was the switch out.

Here is a link to the ebay auction where I'm looking at the shifter:
2011 12 13 Jeep Wrangler JK Floor Shifter Auto | eBay

Thanks in advance

David

Highly doubt it. Your shifter pulls in a straight line where the 12-14 shifter has to be maneuvered around different 'bumps.' Since it doesn't have a button, there would be nothing to prevent it from popping out of gear or worse, into reverse or park while driving.

Thanks for the response. I emailed Chrysler earlier to see what they think but I figured it wouldn't work.

The 2011+ shifters have a "gate release" solonoid that unlocks when foot is on brake pedal and locks out reverse shifting when in drive. The manuvering of the lever is contained within the body of the shifter unit itself. problem is the surrounding center console area is differnt. The shifter will work fine (Except bump shift units in 2014) but will not match up within the console as height differences etc are different between 10' down to 07' jeeps vs 11' on up Jeeps.

It's early here. And i am trying to choke downy coffee. But "locks out reverse when in drive"? Huh. What determines when it locks. Because when I have my jeep in drive I can, I think, still put it into reverse by moving the lever from drive to reverse. Is there a certain speed at which it doesn't allow you to move the shifter? I know the damn thing will let you put it in 1st gear at ANY SPEED. (<<BAD)

If I recall correctly, the design of a modern auto trans prevents you from slamming your car into reverse at speed. Or even park. There are electronic safeguards to prevent it. Because of gearing, it's impossible even in a manual transmission.

So your saying that if (not sure if it is possible) I replace the center console that works within the height requirements then a switch to the newer shifter may be possible?

Looks like there is a way to do it. I found a thread dated back from 2011 and shows a retrofit console switch and there someone with an 09 that had it switched out and had the newer style shifter. It shows the picture I believe on page 4.

That Ebay auction is for the 2011 shifter and is a direct replacement for the 2007-2010 shifter. I am currently running the same shifter in my 2007 JK. You CANNOT use the 2012 and later shifter because of the newer transmission. You will need the newer style center console.
