Stock JK TechBulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.
I've read that the 2008 JK takes ATF+4 for power steering fluid. Is that true? I'm just double checking before I top it off. I do see some conflicting info in searches. My owner's manual is buried somewhere.
ha, ronjenx responded at same time. I'd trade you isses right now. I think I've got the dreaded 3.6L tick. I suspect bad rocker
That stinks. I've been told it isn't hard to diagnose which one and fix, for a shop anyway. The good news is that once fixed that engine will go for hundreds of thousands of miles. I absolutely love the Pentastar in my JL.
I'm leaving on a big off-road/overlanding trip tomorrow and hadn't thought much about the power steering fluid in the old JK until yesterday. It is very dark red compared to new ATF+4 so I'm going to swap it out completely sometime soon. In the meantime, I took a turkey baster last night and removed about 1/4 quart and replaced it with new fluid. I'll do that a few times to "freshen" it up a bit. But when we get home, I'm going to change it. The old Jeep has 158k on it and I've been pretty good about all the maintenance but that one got by me. The brake/clutch fluid looks good but I'm going to swap it out, too, ultimately. It isn't as old. I had a new transmissio installed (under warranty, thank goodness) at 116k, so at least the clutch portion was new. They probably bled it all. But the Jeep runs/drives like new, including brakes, clutch, and power steering.
