Preventive Theft Methods?
I know its one of the most security wise vulnerable vehicles out there but what can I do to make it a huge PITA and time consuming job to steal it? My neighbors daughters friends are always eyeing my Jeep as well as my other neighbors Tacoma and one time I saw them looking inside of it. I can't park it inside cause I don't have room because of my tools and lots of unopened moving boxes.
What are some devices you guys are using to make it hard for those trying to steal your Jeep? I know if they really want to steal it they will but my Jeep is the only vehicle I have right now and I can't afford not to have a vehicle.
I don't have an alarm or powered locks but I've only been using my steering wheel lock bar. What are devices besides alarms you guys use? There are lots of you guys using the steering wheel bar.
Also how do I activate the steering wheel lock on the jeep? Sometimes I turn my wheel half a rotation and it locks how do I lock it by choice?
My police friends have been telling me that the four door Jk where getting stolen and about 3 of them since friday.

I am not a vehicle thief, so I guess I may just be ignorant - but I don't see how any new vehicle can even fit into the category of being "easy" to steal. With sentry keys that require a specific code right next to the ignition it isn't exactly an easy task. You can not just "hotwire" these vehicles. The weak spot of this vehicle would definitely be the fact that if you drop the parking brake, and pull it out of gear you can just winch it up onto a truck and leave. But it is going to be hard to stop anybody that well organized and equipped. Steering wheel locks, auto transmissions, etc - is not going to stop that kind of theft.
Can I ask why you are so worried? I am not trying to be funny, I am serious. Car thefts pretty much fall into two categories - opportunity and targeted. Opportunity can be prevented by removing your keys (duh), parking in reasonable areas, etc. Targeted? Who knows, insurance is the best option. Truth is police are pretty much worthless for real crime except for filling out reports, and even hardened bank vaults require alarms - so if you are a target of a truly pro thief - insurance is the best bet.

The steering wheel lock bars are ineffective since your steering wheel can be sawed through rather quickly to remove the lock bar. I recommend using the AutoLock brake lock instead. I've been using these on all my family vehicles for years.
I added a proximity motion sensor to my Jeep's stock alarm system as a deterrent. Here's the write-up I did on it.

Also make sure you have a wheel lock on your spare tire. Numerous forum members have reported their spare tire getting stolen in the absence of wheel locks.

why not install an alarm system that has a kill switch. my buddy has something similar on his volvo. every time he gets in he has to hit a switch otherwise it "kills" the car and the only way to get it to work again is by punching in the code on his stereo.
I built and installed GPS tracker devices in all my vehicles... they notify me if the vehicle moves... started or not....
works great but costs $$ to have it transmit the data to my server....
got one in the Jeep, got one in my Hotrod, and have one i carry with me so my friends know where i am....
the vehicles also have RFID modules in them... (mainly for the home automation.. turns on my HVAC and lights when i come home)...
however in the event a vehicle theft occured and the vehicle put into an enclosed trailer with no GPS reception... cell tower location will get me close enough to use an RFID reader to track down the vehicle.....
the devices run up to 12 hours under their own power if vehicle power id disconnected...
sure there are ways to defeat them, but most people wont even try....
I put cameras on the outside of my house because people seemingly wanted to pilfer through my jeep on summer nights.. since the cams went in not once has anyone been in.. they pick an easier house to mess with...

The bigger issue is things in the interior with the soft top on. I always lock everything up including power adapters and chargers. Stupid stuff that the thief probably isn't going to be able to do anything with, but they'll load up a bag of phone chargers, GPS power adapters, CDs and whatever other trinkets you have around. In fact a year ago a kid got caught after going through a dozen or so cars, had a backpack full of car chargers and CDs then to my surprise as the officer dumped the kids take on the hood of his car, a half dozen open packs of gum and mints. Would you really chew a piece of gum you had found in someones car or put a mint of the same origin in your mouth?
These aren't the brightest guys on the planet we're dealing with, but fortunately it doesn't take much to get them to move onto the next victim.
