Question about extended warranty and LIFETIME POWER TRAIN WARRANTY?
Hey guys, I just got my new Rubi unlimited a week ago and dealer sold me extended - lifetime power train warranty for $1970. It sounds like a heck of a deal, but I am a bit concerned how "lifetime" this warranty is?
I have 30 days from the moment of purchase to return this warranty if I don't want to keep it. So please help me figure out if this is a good deal or not?
Also, I am used to purchase my extended warranties when the original 36/3 bumper to bumper warranty expires. I don't like to spend money for the warranty upfront when it is something I don't even need to think about for almost 3 years of the vehicle life. Hence, another question is if anyone purchased extended warranty at the time when original one was expiring, and if so what did you pay for it?
Thanks.

I just got my 2011 Rubicon JKU, and I got the lifetime bumper to bumper and lifetime oil. It took me a while to figure out the benefits of it but after my sister in law had to take her jeep in to get the electrical board changed out (after the warranty was over) it cost her over 1K. So after that I am convinced that the $100 deductable is well worth it. You can’t go wrong to have it all covered. Hope that helped.

The Lifetime Service Contracts by Chrysler, are just that (lifetime) as long as your are the original owner of the vehicle, it's covered (no mileage limit). If you plan to keep the Jeep beyond your finance period 5,6,7 years or more, they are well worth the money. True there could be some issues if you plan to lift the Jeep. I would suggest using the Mopar 2" lift anything beyond that height could void the suspension coverage of the service contract, but not all coverage. They have to prove that the lift cuased the failure of the component, if they can't, it will be covered. Although, according to their plan provissions Mopar parts that are dealership installed are also covered by the plan. So you need to weigh out what you plan to modify on the Jeep and how you plan to drive it, will it be your daily driver with some minnor off roading, or will plan to build an extrem off road Jeep and use it as such??? If it is the later, it might not be worth your money.
I too bought the Lifetime warranty (lifetime of my ownership) and also had to weigh out whether it was worth the extra $2000 or not but as mentioned in another post just one problem and it was a wise decision. I have read threads here about major engine problems etc and have no regrets. I also read the long drawn out fight that WayOfLife has gone through with his lift and warranty and a dealership that flagged his Jeep. I do really think this was a case of seeking retaliation against him for unfavorable feedback but it was what they used against him and his lifetime warranty will always be flagged. I do plan on getting a lift on my Rubicon at some point but it will be done through the dealership with Mopar parts to try to eliminate some of the chance of getting flagged. I was in there a couple of days ago and talked to one of the guys about the lift on a JK Unlimited in the showroom and he said it wouldn't effect the warranty. This contradicts what one of the Chrysler top guys told WayOfLife, basically that anything that you do can be held against your warranty IF the dealership flags your Jeep VIN. All in all I do still think the warranty is good piece of mind and don't regret the insurance that it provides against an expensive repair.

Based on those mods I don't think dealership can deny of the major - power train warranty.
