How many times have I seen cars on the side of the highway changing a tire with a boat-load of crap piled out of the trunk just to get at the spare!

But I always thought it would be worse to have the spare hanging underneath like many pickups, especially if you're on a muddy surface.......

That's the primary reason I contend that pick-ups aren't designed as bona-fide off-road vehicles. You have to be crazy to think that a spare stored under the bed is suitable for an off-road vehicle. If the engineers can't even get the spare right, what else have they screwed up in the design? Oh, IFS for supposed rock crawlers.

Mine were very difficult to get off the first time.
Chuck the nuts, you don't need them.
I took a gun cleaning rod, attached a .45 caliber wire brush and carefully sprayed some CLP inside the hinge once I got my doors off. I used the bore brush to clean all the grime from the hole.
The I used a wire brush on the hinge pin attached to the door with some CLP. Finally, I greased the door pins with Wilson Combat gun grease (it was all I had).
Now my doors slide right off. I reapply the grease about every other time I remove the doors.
Make sure you wipe up any cleaner: I am not sure what it will do to paint.

Two weeks owning my JK and the doors have gone on and come off no less than 5 times now.. each time with a HUGE grin!

I've learned a few things in this short time:

How you carry the doors matter. You need to get one hand along the top of the window sill and another under the door, especially when you re-attach it. Holding the bottom of the door helps you align with the lower hinge.

Pulling the door out - the trick is to open the door 45 degrees and then pull it straight up. If you don't open it enough or open it too much it gets stuck on the edges of the vehicle body and will feel "stuck" or super hard to remove.

Just my 2 cents

I roll the windows down and grab the inside door handle with my right hand and put my left under the mirror. Reverse for the passenger side. Mine have been off since Friday and probably won't put them back on till it tans again.

95 unusual degrees in MI today. You bet my doors came off yesterday and my soft lowers put on. I own a Bestop Hoss door carrier carriage and load my doors onto it and wheel them into a corner of the barn.

My doors off method; first keep pin area clean and spray some 3in1 each time I replace doors. This greatly helps when you want doors off. With windows down I reach in through open window grab inside grab handle squat enough to get a little leverage under door with a knee then squat lift while slightly pivoting the door.
