Question on a hard top without panels
Hi,
I'm picking up my Jeep this morning
There is a hard top for sale for a JK but doesn't have the 2 top panels, just the main hard top. He's selling it for $650. I found two panels at Acme Jeeps for $450.
I haven't seen the hard top yet but was thinking of putting a deposit on it to hold it. What do you think?

Ok, thanks.
He said the moving company lost the two panels when he moved. I'm going to look at it and probably get it since hard tops are so expensive. I didnt' get the Jeep I was looking at today for several reasons, so the dealership is still looking. I will only get a 2rd JK and I know they can't find one in my price range that already has a hard top on it.
Can someone give me the dimensions of a JK 2 door hard top back piece??

I've been looking at 4dr jeeps for a month and I had to have a hard top. Since many of the jeeps only had softtops I shopped for hardtops on craigslist (google: Jeep JK Hardtop craigslist ). Although these are hard to find in the winter, since most people have them on, I came across several in my area over the course of a month selling from $900 to $1200 complete (for a 4dr). For the prices you quoted I would rather buy a complete, but used, factory hardtop to ensure everything works together. Or, I would make sure you get a great deal so you can turn around and sell them if they don't work.
I'd make entirely sure that it's a Mopar top. I know that Bestop makes a 2 piece top, and I'd bet that it wouldn't be compatible with the Mopar freedom top panels.
Also, unless the Jeep had the dual tops option, you'll need to install the wiring kit to gain all the functionality of the hard top (wiper, defroster, maybe lights?). It normally runs around $160.00 and you have to take it back to the dealer when it's installed for activation.
Good luck!

I noticed that the locking latches of the front panels on a 2010 Unlimited I had as a rental were in different locations than on my 2008. Not sure if anything else changed over time. You might want to make sure front panels and rear part are same model year.

I bought my jeep with the hardtop and then found a used soft top later.
I haven't used my hard top in a year, now.
I would advise you to buy one with a hard top and get the soft one later, OR get both tops from the dealer. If you get both from the dealer, the tops will be under warranty. If you get a hard top later, and your jeep wasn't made to have one, they won't warranty any leaks or wind noise, which is very common.
