Random stalling at red lights?
Hello jeep world,
I am new to this forum looking for some guidance.
My ‘13 jk sport 3.6 stalls randomly at idle. I’ve read a ton of forums referencing TJs but havent seen much in the JK.
The engine is totally stock. Just hit 100k miles.
A couple times a day driving to and from work it will stall at idle. Doesn’t choke or anything, like you can’t see it coming. Then it starts right back up and does fine while driving.
I’m not getting any codes with this!
I cleaned the throttle body, air filter, and poked around. Still does it.
The kicker is, it just came out of the shop. It didn’t do this before the shop trip. I had the oil pressure sensor replaced because I didn’t have the time or will (in 100+ weather) to do it myself. My understanding is the intake had to come off. So I thought maybe there was a vacuum problem and the intake wasn’t put back properly. I brought it back to the shop to check their work and they did, and insured me it was all correct. They suggested I continue to drive it until a code appears.
Been three weeks and no codes, and no progress on what it could be.
Any suggestions would be so helpful!
Thank you in advance!

I have the same issue! Took it to the dealership just after Christmas. They managed to dig up over $7,000 in repairs. Finally picked it up last week. Guess whos Jeep is STILL stalling at lights? Took it back again two days ago, they called me today to come pick it up after throwing in the towel, and saying they can't figure out what the problem is. I am fuming
Help us understand, no CEL .. NO Codes ? Did the idle drop below 500rpm and then die? What did the dealerships replace and clean? Initially My first guess would be Cam or crank position sensor. You should also check to ensure all fuses and relays are seated tight. Another thing to check is the tranny fluid level. If it gets low the converter will not disengage properly when slowing down causing the engine to stall. Just an easy check. And could be fuel pump is going.
I agree on the crackshaft sensor located at the rear of the engine (from under side) towards the transmission. A quick repair one can do their self. I actually have 2 spare sensors plus other sensors in the jeep full time. Also I would add, disconnect the battery, clean the cables, terminals and check the grounds. This might even be the camshaft sensor. Just remember to clear the codes after new components have been installed.

My guess is intermittent electrical failure of some component. EG wire break coming apart inside insulation then joining, loose connection, short of some kind. bad ground. Start her up and get under the hood and wriggle wires. Be careful of hot or moving rotating equipment when doing this. Reason I suggest this is that there are no codes so perhaps the system thinks it is just being shut off.
My Jeep stalled on me a couple times and wouldn't start afterward for a bit while running the TransAmerica Trail across Oklahoma last August. It did come with a check engine light for cylinder misfire. In my case, it was always associated with water crossings. Ten minute job (one screw, one two-wire connector) to replace the crankshaft position sensor, and haven't had a problem since. I'd replace that, senatorgreaves, if it hasn't been done already.

I was wondering if you resolved the problem?
thanks a million for the help.
Stalling at stops
My 2013 JK is currently in the shop for the same thing for the third time in 3 years. No codes. They can't figure it out (Jeep Dealership Certified Service Center).
Here's what I know:
It only happens during hot weather.
It only happens with the A/C on.
It never happens any other time.
They are currently testing the gas purge valve to see if replacing it solves the problem.
I'll keep you posted when I learn more.
Got my Jeep back today (6/10/2021). They think it's electrical but can't find the problem. Now they want to keep it for 2 weeks next month
I'll keep you posted..
